Doctrine & Covenant

Doctrine and Covenant of The Church of Spiritualists, Inc.

OUR PURPOSE

The purpose of The Church of Spiritualists, hereafter referred to as the church, is to shine the light of God through the teachings of Jesus Christ. Our focus is on educational endeavors and weekly sermons that help educate our members, and anyone open to listening, on “God-sufficiency” as opposed to dependency on organizations or authorities, as we believe that the only authority we are intended to be dependent on is God. We spread the knowledge of farming, gardening, preserving of food, medicinal herb usage, as these items and methods are provided to the Earth by God for us to utilize and honor. We also focus heavily on charity based work, providing members with plants, animals, or other necessary items to decrease their dependence on authorities of this world, and help them more heavily rely on God for their needs. "God" refers to the ultimate energy of all creation personified through all religious texts and histories and is not reserved only for God as represented in the biblical texts.

Our faith is deeply rooted in both the spiritual and the practical. We believe that true spiritual fulfillment comes from living in harmony with God’s creation, which includes growing our own food and raising our own animals as a way to sustain both body and soul. Our community embraces a spiritualism-based practice, where the rhythms of the earth and the cycles of life guide our walk with God. Here, we interpret scripture through the lens of this spiritual connection, believing that God speaks to us not only through His Word, but also through the land, the seasons, and the work of our hands. By cultivating the earth and caring for His creatures, we honor God’s divine design, reduce our dependence on man-made authorities, and deepen our understanding of His will for our lives.

DOCTRINE

The following represents the doctrinal beliefs of The Church of Spiritualists, Inc., and is considered essential agreement for all members, spiritual stewards, and individuals in positions of instruction or leadership.

1. We believe God is the ultimate creator of all things here on Earth and beyond. God represents the light but is also the creator of the dark. God exists in each living thing in an energetic form we call “spirit”. God is a force that is infinitely perfect.
2. We believe that God speaks through the sacred texts of many traditions, including the words of His son Jesus Christ found in the New Testament. We also believe that God speaks directly to each of us—within our hearts—through the Holy Spirit. While the Bible was written by human hands seeking to share divine truth, we recognize that interpretation of the human authors was shaped by their time period. For this reason, we approach scripture with both reverence and discernment, acknowledging that some spiritual teachings may have been influenced by human perspective or set aside all together. As a church, we remain open to learning from both Scripture and spiritual writings that may have been forgotten, excluded, or yet to be discovered, trusting God to guide our truth.
3. We believe that God created all life through giving of Himself through spirit. We believe that all creation stories, even with their differences, reflect one God as the ultimate creator.
4. We believe that spirit is infinite, and that Heaven reflects an elevated state of being that is closest to God the creator. Our purpose on Earth is to learn the lessons needed to reach that ultimate state of being, where returning to Earth through reincarnation becomes unnecessary and our individual energetic being may remain in a heaven state, essentially returning to God.
5. We believe that Hell is also a state of being, and Satan is the representation of evil that is directly opposite of light.
6. We believe that the Holy Spirit represents God’s energetic spirit in motion here on Earth.
7. We believe that the ten commandments represent the most basic and important commands of God to adhere to on this Earth.
8. We believe that our purpose here is to be the light of God Himself and combat evil by seeking justice for the oppressed, showing acceptance towards others no matter where they are on their journey, and remaining open to God and showing faith in Him over all other authorities.
9. We believe that the spirit of Jesus Christ will return to this Earth and save those who believe in God as the creator.
10. We believe that God commands everyone everywhere to turn to Him for their needs, and God has provided everything on Earth needed to sustain life. We believe God calls on us all to raise our own animals for food and also companionship, honoring their existence as we have been commanded to do. God has provided us plants to grow for food and medicines, which we should do our best to utilize in order to honor these gifts God has given us.

COVENANT

• We will strive to lead by example and willfully shine God’s light out onto the Earth through our own words and actions.

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden," Matthew 5:14.
“The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how.” Mark 4:26-33

• We will not only gather in prayer but remember to speak to God through prayer throughout each day to increase our own individual connection to God.

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” Matthew 6:5-8

• We will work to understand the lessons we are being taught and grow from them.

"In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." 1 Thessalonians 5:18

• We will show love and acceptance to others as Jesus Christ instructed, by understanding that each person’s journey to God is individual. With this regard, we will not surround ourselves with company that is immersed in evil or wrongdoing. Acceptance does not equate to friendship. In instances where individuals refuse to grow in God’s light, preferring instead to stay in the darkness, we are to accept their position, remove ourselves from their presence as much as possible, and pray for them.

"Don't take the path of the wicked; don't follow those who do evil. Stay away from that path; don't even go near it. Turn around and go another way". Proverbs 4:14-19

• We will accept God’s gifts to this Earth and choose to utilize what He has provided us whenever possible in order to refrain from dependency on man. This includes growing our own food and raising our own animals to the capacity we are able. We will continually strive to become as free from systems of man made dependency as possible.

“Then God said, “I've given you every sort of seed-bearing plant on Earth And every kind of fruit-bearing tree, given them to you for food. To all animals and all birds, everything that moves and breathes, I give whatever grows out of the ground for food.” And there it was.” Genesis 1:29-30
“And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth and upon every bird of the heavens, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea. Into your hand they are delivered. Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.'" Genesis 9:1-3
"God provides us with herbs for the service of man." Psalms 104:14

• We do not give any other authority higher dependence than we give to God.

“Apart from me you can do nothing" John 15:5
